The class of Spring 1970 graduates from Balboa High the evening of June 10 at the California Masonic Memorial Temple. On this day the final "senior activites" will take place
at school. First, there will be the traditional Senior Breakfast, presented to the grads-to-
be (in their caps and gowns) by the new high and mighties. Then, the Move-Up assembly,
where the new high seniors are formally installed as Bal's leaders and the outgoing high
seniors are honored and bade farewell. The members of the Class of Fall 1970 will be the
new leaders and, though there are not many, will carry on the tradition of being the best
class.

As the memories of the graduation to come will linger, so will those of the past three
years at Balboa remain. In the Fall of 1967, as sophomores, the Class of Spring 1970 saw
the Varsity football team win the Thanksgiving Day game for the AAA Championship with
a remarkable record of no defeats. The spirit of the class made it the first to be awarded
Spirit Trophy as sophomores. Two days before Thanksgiving there was a fire in the main
building of the school, causing it to close for an extended vacation. A teacher's strike in
the spring made it a very eventful year.

The junior year brought the second straight AAA football title to Bal, though the outlook was dim when the Bucs lost their opening game. The class had a successful party and
field trip to Angel Island for activites. The spring, again, brought a teacher's strike.
The most awesome event took place during that summer when Neil Armstrong walked on
the moon. ^^__

The last year at Bal will probably be the best remembered. The senior pin is the be-
ginning, the Move-Up on January 21, 1970 is the climax. The fall term was marred by racial disturbance to the point of closing Bal for two days. It was not the first outbreak. There
had been some problems the proceeding years; but it was major this time. Opinions were
expressed and changes were made. Bal reopened with a little tenseness in the air but the
usual wrong bell schedule. The Thanksgiving Day game brought defeat to Bat for the first
time in three years; but the Bucs had gone "all the way to Turkey Day" for the third straight
year. It's presentation of the "Senior Jinx" on Jan. 5 was the greatest accomplishment of
the class during the Fall. The decline in activites plagued Bal during the year due to a
shortage of funds and apathy on the part of the students. An Alumni Association was found-
ed by the 100 Bucs. The class got together and gave the Class of Fall 1969 the Aloha Party
on Januarys, 1970. Move-Up, January 21, was the most eventful day as the Class of Spring
1970 became the high and mighty class of Balboa. The Move-Up Party at the Sons of Italy
Hall kept things going. A couple of bus strikes and a City employees strike created a few
problems.. The Senior Picnic at Castle Rock on May 12 began to fold the term. June 6th
brought the Senior Ball and its magic.

In short, three years are gone. Graduation night will be a step into a new world.
